How to delete similar photos on iPhone

The Photos app finds exact duplicates, but not the fifteen versions of one sunset. Here is what the built-in tools do, where they stop, and how to clear near-identical shots without losing the good one.

Step by step

  1. Open Photos → Albums → Utilities → Duplicates. iOS merges exact and near-exact copies here. Bursts and re-shoots of the same scene usually are not listed.
  2. For everything the Duplicates album misses, you need grouping by moment: shots taken seconds apart of the same subject. That is what Keepframe does on the device.
  3. In Keepframe, choose a range (last 500 photos, a date range or the whole library). Similar shots are grouped into series.
  4. In each series one frame is recommended, with reasons: sharper, eyes open, better exposed, well framed. Keep it, or pick another.
  5. Tap “Create album” to save your keepers. Then, optionally, review the outtakes and clear them — they go to Recently Deleted for 30 days.

Does it delete anything automatically?
No. Every deletion is a tap on a confirmation screen, and favorites and photos from the last 7 days are never pre-selected.
Are my photos uploaded?
Grouping and recommendations run on the iPhone with Apple's Vision framework. The optional AI pick sends downsized thumbnails of one group only when you tap it.
Is it free?
